This Is The Best Feature Of The Datsun 240Z

"THE FAIRLADY Z"

The launch of the new Nissan Z has generated tremendous hype. Many believe that this is a true throwback to the original Datsun 240Z, which does require certain design cues. Everyone loves the Datsun 240Z, which debuted in 1970.

Jason Cammisa took a look at the original Fairlady Z (the 240Z model name for the Japanese market) for the Hagerty YouTube channel and talks about how the car changed the reputation and perception of Japan.

The 240Z was originally sold as Datsun, which was the name Nissan had when it was first founded. The Datsun brand was used in the US market until the early 1980s when it switched to Nissan. Cars such as the 1983 280ZX had a "Datsun 280ZX by Nissan" badge on the rear to ease the transition.

Datsun's first sports car, the original Fairlady 2000, was heavily influenced by British roadsters. To sell the car's successor in America, Datsun changed it from a roadster to a coupe. The sports car was first developed with Yamaha as the A550X prototype but did not go beyond the prototype stage.

This Yamaha project then reappeared as the Toyota 2000GT, forcing Nissan to work on a new car – the Fairlady Z.

THE FIRST-EVER FAIRLADY:

Nissan bought Prince Motors, a high-end Japanese automaker that was struggling. Prince had the license to build the Mercedes engine and then inherited the license for the straight six from Nissan when they bought Prince. The Datsun 240Z blew people away by looking like a Jaguar XKE, yet with the reliability, affordability, and reliability of a Japanese car.

The car became a sensation and the design of the car was completely created within Nissan.

Under the skin of the 240Z, there's plenty to get you excited, like its independent suspension, rear-wheel drive, and 151 horsepower from the inline six. And at the time, the 240Z was only about $3,500, compared to about $14,500 for the Dino Ferrari. Unsurprisingly, for all these reasons, the 240Z sold like hotcakes.

The Fairlady Z432, a Japan-only version, was a version of the 240Z that didn't really sell well. Thanks to the engine from the R380 and the original Skyline GT-R, it was more powerful, giving 160 hp at 7500 rpm.

The sports car flavor of the original 240Z (as well as the similar 260Z and 280Z) may have faded with the softer 280ZX that replaced it in 1979, but the 240Z changed the way we all look at Japanese cars. And it looks like we're going back to those original glory days with the latest Z.

THE TRADEMARK OF REVOLUTION:

The Datsun 240Z was the game changer the Japanese needed to enter the American car market, and it arrived with flying colors.

Before, when Datsun vehicles started production, they were all in box-like cases, so they looked like engines in a box. It was popular until 1970 when he finally decided to make something different from what he knew.

The result is the Datsun 240Z, a two-door sports coupe. This attracted a lot of attention and gave the Japanese car company a name in the United States.

The 240Z hit the market to compete with some other great cars at the time. These include the 240Z, Opel GT and MGB GT, which preceded the Porsche 914 by 5 years. All of these have sporty features, and the 240Z was a sports car when it was produced.

UNMATCHED PERFORMANCE:

No one wants to buy a sports car without seeing its performance. Why would it be called a sports car without having great performance?

When it comes to performance, power and speed are two important factors to look for in any sports car, and Datsun does not disappoint in this regard.

There was something about the 240Z that could be called cool for its time. With a 2.4 inline-six engine producing 151 horsepower, the car can reach a top speed of 126 mph and go from 0-60 in eight seconds. It's not what you'd expect from a modern sports car, but it was good enough to compete with its rivals for its time.

Power through a five-speed manual gearbox and the car is rear-wheel drive. These figures were higher than some of its competitors at the time, including the MGB GT and Opel GT, both of which had a top speed of 115 mph. While the Japanese car has good performance, it has better looks. We can confidently call this the best feature.

STUNNING LOOKS:

When it comes to appearance, Datsun 240Z has exactly the look one would expect from a sports car. What could be better than an affordable and attractive sports car exterior?

Apart from the excellent performance, the two-door coupe's exterior features say it all. The Japanese are tired of box cars, so they give the 240Z what it deserves; athletic and aggressive body type.

Throwing out the box, Datsun did something different for the first Z car, a traditional sports car design with a long hood and a short rear. This design can be found in modern sports cars such as modern Ferrari models.

The long front bumper fits perfectly into the window, giving a nice look to the round headlights.

The side has an unobstructed flowing line with the B-pillar and the short rear just needs to look perfect for the car.

It can be said that the designer of Datsun 240Z, Yoshihiko Matsuo, did a great job and his design was in advance. This has to be the best feature of any Datsun sports car.

Not only is it a beautiful car, but Datsun has combined it with something great - affordability. When the Datsun 340Z was launched, it was the most comfortable of all sports cars. The starting price was $3,500. That's less than its competitors, which cost thousands of dollars more. These cars became popular in the car market and Japanese car companies responded by producing more. However, the price of the 240Z is currently increasing with each new release date.

One downside to the beautiful sculpting of the 240Z is that it rusts. Because part of it holds water especially outside.

SIMPLICITY IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED:

The 240Z's spacious, luxurious interior is elegant and simple, and unique. The dashboard has a classic '70s style, featuring a series of gauges arranged in a wave-like pattern.

Air duct placement is very simple and similar to the steering column; simple and cool. There are no extra buttons or knobs to add weight to the machine. All this makes the vehicle light and easy to handle.

To top it all off, the black vinyl and plastic wrap on the car's interior complete everything about it. Datsun has really given us enough reasons to love the Datsun 240z - its simplicity, performance, and value.

Datsun has set up the car well for daily driving and highway driving - a well-deserved pleasure. The Datsun 240Z is a sports car that is considered one of the most important classics in history.
